Engineering resilience in a prison's performance management system

While organisations are becoming more complex than ever, their applied performance management (PM) systems still based on the conventional PM approach, derived from need for control and accountability. On other hand, turbulent changes, growing interdependencies across organisations, increasing uncertainty have created challenges beyond boundaries of traditional approaches. This study explores how principles methods resilience engineering (RE) field can be to improve organisations' adaptive capacity in sense that they anticipate, recognise, adapt absorb external or internal disturbances. By discussing features different components ideas RE, we provide a framework links elements system main RE at cultural, strategic, operational levels. The approach is instantiated validated context correctional service institutes, focusing both security threats related safety implications staff inmates. We use Norwegian prison as case apply proposed assess institute's potentials.
